Our heart specialists provide you with a multitude of dedicated, women-centered heart health services, including:
Specialized cardiac care for life events
Cardiac care during life events
Hormones like estrogen greatly affect your heart disease risk. We monitor your heart health throughout critical life events, including:
- Pregnancy: We expertly diagnose and treat pregnancy-related heart conditions, including preeclampsia (pregnancy-induced high blood pressure), arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders), and peripartum cardiomyopathy (heart failure that occurs toward the end of pregnancy or after childbirth). We work with your OB-GYN and high-risk pregnancy physicians to safeguard your heart during and after pregnancy. Learn more about our pregnancy and newborn care.
- Menopause: Our cardiologists carefully monitor the use of hormone replacement therapy to help manage menopause symptoms. We collaborate with your gynecologist to make you comfortable during this life transition while minimizing your chances of hormone-induced heart problems. Learn more about gynecologic care.

Cardio-oncology care
Certain cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation to the chest for breast cancer, increase a woman’s risk of heart failure and arrhythmia. We coordinate care with your oncologist to lower your risk of cancer treatment side effects that contribute to heart damage caused by cardiotoxicity.
Expert diagnosis of heart disease in women
AHN was among the first centers in the country to use cardiac magnetic resonance imaging CMRI to detect heart disease in women. This imaging test complements tools such as cardiac catheterization and stress testing that detect early signs of coronary artery disease in women.
Comprehensive treatments
The Women’s Heart Center is part of AHN’s Cardiovascular Institute. As a national leader in cardiac care, the Cardiovascular Institute offers the latest heart treatments, including novel therapies available only in clinical trials. Our researchers are dedicated to discovering new diagnostic methods and treatments for heart disease. Learn more about our women’s heart services.
