About the program
General obligations and duty hours
- Preview imaging studies in the reading room and dictate those studies.
- Oversee resident interpretations of studies prior to staff review.
- Perform fluoroscopic exams, drainage/aspirations, biopsies and ablations under supervision of attending staff.
- Teach residents and students (see below).
- Attend multidisciplinary conferences and assist in preparation.
- Duty hours are typically 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but may be modified by the Program and/or Division Director.
Supervision
The fellow will be, at all times in that role, supervised by Drs. Matthew Hartman, Kamyar Ilkhanipour, Paul Klepchick, Jason Long, Anthony Lupetin, Rishi Maheshwary, Brendan Mullen, Cory Nordman, and Theodore Schroeder. All are board-certified, fellowship-trained abdominal imaging radiologists holding memberships to various professional societies.
Supervised duties will include image interpretation, performance of invasive procedures (biopsies, drainage/aspirations, and ablation), and resident and student teaching. All imaging studies to be reported and all reports of those imaging studies and procedures will be reviewed by one of the supervising staff. All procedures will be performed under direct supervision of the attending staff. In addition, the fellow will be encouraged to develop and execute a research project on a subject of his/her interest. The goal will be to not only become involved in scholarly pursuits, but also to prepare a paper for presentation and/or publication in the peer-review literature.
During non-fellowship when working as junior attending, studies performed and interpreted by the fellow will not be reviewed by the faculty, since the fellow will be a board-eligible, licensed practitioner. Attending faculty in all divisions are always available for consult and help.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Instruct residents and students in basics of abdominal imaging and diseases.
- Present at resident case conference.
- Present didactic conferences.
Conferences
Multiple multidisciplinary conferences on a weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis for participation and education exist including: Tumor board, gastrointestinal, liver/transplant, pancreatic, gynecological oncology, genitourinary, endocrine, and inflammatory bowel disease.
