What is the difference between behavioral health and mental health?
People often use the terms “mental health” and “behavioral health” interchangeably, though there are differences. Here’s how we define them.
-
Behavioral Health
Behavioral health refers to the connection between your behaviors and the health of your body and mind. Behavioral health can include treatment and prevention of disorders like depression, anxiety and substance use disorder.
-
Mental Health
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It may affect how you handle stress or relate to others. Genetics, brain chemistry, trauma or abuse, and family history all contribute to your mental health.
