Residents

Our residents are a diverse group, hailing from Pittsburgh or around the globe. Although each has a unique background and story to tell, what unites them is their intense commitment to learn while providing the best patient care possible.

Chief Residents

AHN Internal Medicine Residency Chief Residents 2022-2023

Meera Babu, MD

Dr. Babu, a Pittsburgh Native, earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University and medical degree from George Washington Medical School.  She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Allegheny Health Network in June 2021. After chief year, she plans to pursue a Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. Her academic interests include medical education and new found interest in narrative medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys listening to crime-thriller podcasts, finding new restaurants and ice cream parlors, spending time with family, and is always on the lookout for a new dad joke (although she is not a parent!)..

Laith Alhuneafat, MD

Dr. Laith Alhuneafat grew up in Jordan and Canada. He earned his medical degree from the Hashemite University. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the  Allegheny Health Network in June 2022. After chief year, he plans to pursue a fellowship in Cardiology. His academic interests include outcomes research, MedEd, and POCUS. Outside of work he enjoys travel, trying different restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. His favorite city to visit is Barcelona although he is a huge Real Madrid fan.

Aaron Haag, DO

Dr. Aaron earned his bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College and his medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Allegheny Health Network in June 2022. After his chief year, he plans to pursue fellowship in Pulmonology and Critical Care. While a resident, he was part of the Clinical Educator Pathway. His academic interests include medical education and adult learning theory. Outside of work he enjoys spending time outside hiking mountains in the summer, skiing in the winter, and enjoying craft beers on the weekend.

Ashley Youngs, DO

Dr. Youngs is a Florida native and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Allegheny Health Network in June 2022. After chief year, she plans to pursue a career in primary care with a focus on women’s health and gender-based medicine. Outside of work she loves to spend time with her family, friends, and two cats. She also enjoys exploring the Pittsburgh food scene and traveling.

Brittany Vannatter, DO

Dr. Vannatter is a Pittsburgh native who earned her bachelor’s degree from Westminster College and medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Allegheny Health Network in June 2022. After chief year she plans to pursue primary care with a focus on aesthetic medicine and preventative care. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her English bulldog, true crime, and reality television.
